Registration packets may be picked up at the schools, ten days prior to the start of the school year or eight days after the end of the school year. When the school offices are closed for the summer you may pick up a registration packet at the Susanville School District Office. We believe that parent participation is critical to achieving the very best learning outcomes for our student. There are many ways to become involved in the schools. Some of the more formal ways include joining the Parent-Teacher Association or becoming involved as a participant or elected member of the site council at one of our schools. There is always need for classroom volunteers in our schools as well as other helping roles that support the education of children. You may become a volunteer by obtaining and completing a "Volunteer Application Form". While very valuable, direct parent involvement in the schools is not the only way to help assure your child's success. Providing a set time and quiet place for homework, monitoring the completion of assignments, contacting your child's teacher and discussing his or her progress and reading to your child are all important ways of communicating to your son or daughter that you value learning and are a partner with your child's teacher.

How old does my child need to be to enter kindergarten?

Based on state statute governing school districts, students must turn 5 by December 2nd of the enrollment year. Because the skills and abilities of young children often develop at different rates, some children seem to have mastered the academic or the social skills for kindergarten prior to age five. As a result, parents sometimes request early enrollment in kindergarten. A decision to make an early enrollment placement is based on an evaluation conducted by school staff and a recommendation by the school principal based on the results of that evaluation and the judgment of the principal.
